About
PRECORA is a research dataset and framework dedicated to advancing aquaculture of 166 species of precious and semiprecious octocorals, with particular focus on genus Melithaea. By linking coastal economic development to environmental protection and biomedical discovery, PRECORA aims to transform coral use from extraction to cultivation.
Mission
PRECORA compiles biological, environmental, and husbandry knowledge to enable the ethical aquaculture of precious and semiprecious octocorals—especially those belonging to genus Melithaea—as a foundation for sustainable coastal development, reduced wild extraction, and expanded biomedical and ecological research.
Vision
PRECORA envisions a regenerative, sustainable Coral Economy in which cultivated octocorals support resilient coastal livelihoods, advance marine and human health research, and replace extractive trade with biologically sustainable production.
